Greg Haws for Weber County Treasurer

In today's Standard there was a great little article on the three candidates for Weber County Treasurer.  (See Here)

There are three qualified candidates pushing for the position: John Bond, Greg Haws and Darcy Kruitbosch.   But I have to put my public support behind Greg Haws.  This man is amazing when he is working with people.  He commands a certain type of respect when he enters a room and knows how to get things done.  I met Mr. Haws in 2004 and was impressed from the start.  He has worked tirelessly in personal life on numerous boards and committees, not to mention one of these is the State Board of Education.

He has the experience, the expertise and character needed to operate such a position as Weber County Treasurer effectively.

Greg Haws for Treasurer.

Disagree... I was at the central committe meeting and John Bond is the better canidate. Bond will be an easy choice because of his experience. Bond exposed this and that is why he got 61 votes next to Darcy at 49. Haws had a tiny 11 votes... obviously a crowd of 100+ were not impressed.

Well,

I didn't say Greg Haws was going to win, I just said I like him best. But he has been out of the public eye to long. So was always going to be a tough sell. John Bond will do an amazing job. But my support goes behind Greg Haws, for more reasons than I can explain in this forum. He is my man, even if he loses.

I like your style...stick to your guy. All the canidates did well at the meeting... I was impressed with Haws. He did everything he needed to be one of the canidates who can be chosen by the commission. I think Bond and especially Darcy acted like the committee did the electing. Bond will be the easy transition for the treasurer's office. It will be intresting to see who runs in the open election in a year or so. By the way, what is your opinion of the central committee doing the actual electing of the replacement, as opposed to the commissioners? It was a hot topic at the meeting.

I was at the Central Committee meeting also. I really don't know the candidates, but I guess I'm more familiar with Greg Haws than the others because of his past offices he's held. I have to admit, I have some issues with him. Wasn't he a Board member of the failed America West Bank? And while it failed (this year) he and his son-in-laws collected salaries the whole time? Now he wants to be paid by the county as it's Treasurer? Plus, I heard a rumor recently that he currently has a real estate deal with one of the commissioners. I've asked the commissioners about this, but haven't gotten an answer yet. If it is true, I don't think he should be appointed to an elected seat by the same people he's in business with.

Dear Ed:
I'm a journalist based in Boston. I just stumbled in here looking for info on Greg Haws and read your bit of nasty rumor-mongering. I have some professional advice for you: before you start spreading malicious, unsubstantiated stories about Mr. Haws (or anyone, for that matter), you ought to first do some serious reporting, fact checking. Otherwise, you libel the man. Deliberately. Recklessly. You have no way of knowing whether "truth" -- the only defense for libel -- will be on your side, should Haws haul your sorry gossipy ass into court.
